While the participants of the expedition are picking up the pace we decided to tell you a little bit about their everyday life and the special features of Sherp.
The team members keep sending us their commentaries. We know that there was a full revision of the products and all things were put in place. The ambience of the ATVs is fully sorted now. The expedition is picking up pace. Vladimir Shilnikov is telling us a little about his cabin.
- Let’s start with the simplest things. Every theatre starts with a cloakroom, and similarly the ATV starts with the front door. The door itself is not like the one the serial vehicle, it opens to the side, not to the bottom. It makes it more convenient for us. The cabin is fitted with comfortable chairs padded with new foam filling. The ATV is as comfortable as a normal automobile. Apart from the controlling instruments we can see a dashboard. It is standard dashboard, but it is fitted with the last model of built in Garmin Virb.
On the right hand side, the driver has navigation meters, a tablet with maps and a navigator Garmin gpsmap 276cx. Above is an intercom iCom with a very powerful antenna. These coms keep us connected in any conditions. The technical equipment is completed with the rearview camera and a couple of electronic thermometers, to show the internal and external temperature. Oh, nearly forgot, under the seats there is a powerful hoist Warn, not a mandatory accessory for an ATV of such class, but it may come in handy during the expedition. Let’s hope we’ll rarely use it.
- Our huge ATV is like a small house, therefore it is equipped for the comfortable living. There a base – bench for sleeping and resting, allowing an easy access to the luggage compartment due to the hinged panes. The side panels are padded with heat insulation material and there are a few fitted compartments for a variety of small but useful things, starting with a tooth brush ending with a warm jacket. Regardless of this there is lots of free space inside. Thick curtains help to hide from the never setting northern sun in summer and from the cold draft in winter. Technically it’s equipped with an autonomous heater Webasto, inventor for 220 Volt, electric lighter for gadget chargers. It is really pleasant to stay here for an hour in the evening, looking at the photographs and writing down memories from this day under the warm lighting.
- The weather has been really good so far. The sky is clear and the sun is shining, though the air temperature outside is slightly below zero. The sun is really warm. The huge ATVs wheels are really warm. The picture is rather surreal – the snowdrift on the swamp and the warmth. It is so tempting to take off the gloves. Everywhere there is a snow crust. It holds perfectly well. We can go on the third gear easily, however if we sink in, it’ll me quite a hassle to get out. The spring snow is loose like grains.
An ATV is not just means of transportation; it is some kind of a house. Almost like a piece of civilization among the virgin nature.
